Duties & Responsibilities of

Youth Coaches/ Parent Coaches

The coaching staff is an integral part of the Marystown United Minor Soccer Association and are expected to provide input and support the decisions of the Executive and abide by established policies.

A youth coach is paid staff that is hired to prepare and run the practices on a daily basis and delivers the program directly to the children. Youth co-ordinator is the senior youth coach responsible for overseeing youth coaches and tournament execution.

A Parent Coach is a volunteer who has invested in becoming a qualified coach under the national coaching certification program who plays an active role in mentoring/guiding the youth coach.

A Coaching Assistant is a volunteer who may or may not have received specific training who has offered to assist at practices in preparing or delivering components of a practice.

*** any volunteer or paid staff that is affiliated with the MUMS program requires a police record check with a vulnerable sector query to ensure the safety of all children enrolled in our program

A youth coach

-come dressed for coaching

-is prepared ½ hour before start of program

-have a plan/or work with parent coach to develop plan

-set up field for entire practice                                                                  

-manage equipment

-coaches on tournament days/assists parent coaches

-run practice with or without parent coach anticipate next activity

-ensure kids play safely

-be interactive, energetic, and prepared to run the practice

-referees during tournaments

-assists with tournament planning/scheduling

-arrives at 9am on tournament days

A Parent Coach

-mentors the youth coach

-ensures program is suited to long term development plan of NLSA

-coaches on tournament days with youth coaches/assistants

-decide on suitability for transfers to more developmental appropriate division (up to u10 only)
